Beginner's Guide: Watercolor

Beginners Guide: Watercolor

I think watercolor is underrated. Mostly, people see watercolor as a hobby that only children uses but actually there's a lot of artist who uses watercolor as their medium for their masterpiece. So, if you're doubting to get watercolor as your medium well, let me tell you why you should definitely have a watercolor on your journey as an artist!

Watercolor is a water-soluble binder such as gum-arabic, and thinned with water rather than oil, giving a transparent color.

Medium that can easily carried anywhere? Affordable but still works just as fine as any other medium? If you are interested in watercolour. Well, these are the things that maybe can help you as a beginner in watercolor:

1. Brands

The brand of your watercolor is one of the important thing if you want to have a quality medium and fortunately, there's a lot of watercolor brands that is very affordable, easy to blend and use: Pebeo, Prang, Reeves and Faber Castell are the ones that I used to use. If you're a beginner you don't want something that is pricey when you're just using it for the first time so as of now these three (Pebeo, Prang, Reeves and Faber Castell) are good quality that I could suggest. Also, there's a lot of artist quality if you want to try it already: Shin Han, Prima Watercolor Confections and sennelier.

2. Brushes

Ofcourse, we can't start without brushes! There's a lot of brushes. types of brushes so I would suggest to buy set of brushes, you could buy online on lazada and shoppee but if you want to buy in physical stores deovir, national bookstore or art bar they have a lot of brushes. You can also buy to those stores piece by piece, you can buy flat brush, round brush and rigger brush since these three is the most useful.

3. Water

We already know water is very important in this medium. We can't really use this without water! But I would suggest to have 2 jars of water so the one can be use for cleaning the brush from the color and the one for getting clean water onto the paper.

4. Paper

What's the use of all the previous thing we have if we didn't have papers? Right? So paper is a must! Specifically, 300 gsm paper because it can take a lot of water not unlike with any other papers so always buy 300 gsm watercolor paper.

Finally you can now start using your new watercolor set! Use it passionately and patiently. Most importantly enjoy! Share your piece with me, goodluck! This is only my opinion and suggestion this could be right or wrong.

Practice makes perfect but patience makes a masterpiece.
